Spanish Exchange

OSFCs 22nd Spanish Exchange to Torrelavega took place with our long reigning partner school ‘instituto’ IES Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón at the end of January. First year Spanish students took part in a week long exchange trip which yet again proved to be a huge success. From a linguistic point of view, it helped the students to develop their fluency and confidence whilst offering an invaluable insight into Spanish culture and traditions.

Staying with host families provided the students with an opportunity to experience everyday Spanish life. During the week, the students utilised their spoken language to help them complete a placement at the local Primary School CEIP Dobra and attend classes at the ‘instituto’. Our students also had the chance to meet the Mayor of Torrelavega, Jose M. Cruz Viadero, who gave them a warm welcome to the town.

Our exchange students joined Art students and their exchange partners from ‘the instituto’ on a day trip exploring the areas of Valladolid and Palencia. The students stopped by the municipality of Frómista in León and they headed to Valladolid. In Valladolid, the students visited the National Sculpture Museum and in Palencia they were able to see the gothic Cathedral.
The students spent their final day in Bilbao, visiting the Guggenheim with Maman and Puppy, San Mamés Stadium, the home of Athletic Club Bilbao, and Zubizur, Calatrava’s famous bridge.
