OSFC Teacher Published In New Book
Jennifer Benzer, teacher of English at OSFC, is proud to announce she has written a chapter in a book aimed at teachers, due to be published in October!
Jennifer has been teaching for 12 years and has shared in the book ‘Teaching English Language and Literature 16-19’ (published by Routledge) a chapter about teaching the creative writing unit on the English Language and Literature A Level course.
Although this is the first time she has had her work published, Jennifer loves writing and knew when she saw a tweet from Marcello Gioavanni, looking for contributors for the book, it would be a great opportunity to share her experience. Jennifer’s chapter covers the topic of what makes good teaching in the English Language and Literature discipline. Jennifer is passionate about her teaching subject, which is about applying ideas from linguistics to literature texts and can be called ‘stylistics’. She said ‘Often people think that English Language and Literature A level is simply half English Language and half English Literature but this is a misunderstanding. At OSFC, our students do really well on the Lang / Lit course and, alongside our students’ hard work, I think it’s also because we understand how to approach the teaching of the texts’.
The book is set to become a valuable resource for other teachers, acting as a bespoke collection of articles that solely focus on the English Language and Literature combined course rather than the focus be either English Language on its own or English Literature on its own. Jennifer says she is proud of the combined course OSFC offer and feels her chapter in ‘Teaching English Language and Literature 16-19’ will help other teachers understand the appeal of analysing literary texts from a linguistics perspective.
