OSFC reaches new heights – Climbing Wall – New for 2019

Extra-curricular activities at OSFC have been boosted by a newly installed climbing wall. The state of the art 91m2 wall will allow students to enrich their experiences whilst at college. The wall has 18 climbing routes, 9 lines, 3 automatic belays and a 1.25m overhang, to cater for absolute beginners through to more experienced climbers. We now have 17 cross-college staff members fully trained as instructors on the wall, following a 2-day intensive course.

The wall is a massive boost to the sports centre, and to curriculum areas across college. OSFC students will have the opportunity to take place in weekly climbing enrichment sessions on an evening or at lunchtime. The climbing wall will be a fantastic addition to the college’s student wellbeing initiatives, as not only does climbing provide a complete body workout, it also involves a lot of problem-solving and decision-making and is an effective way to reduce stress.

The climbing wall proved to be a hit with prospective students at our recent open evening with lots of students trying the activity for the first time.
