Literacy mentoring at OSFC
14 OSFC students have been paired up with mentees to help students who requested help with their literacy skills and are giving up their free time over the next few months to pass on their expertise to other students. They have been trained to improve their own writing skills and are now supporting students with aspects of literacy, structuring essays or spellings. Some mentees are retaking their English GCSE and for others English is their second language.
Mentor Ayeza Akhtar said, “I applied for the role of literacy mentor because I wanted to help fellow students with their work and to help them improve in their literacy skills. Being a literacy mentor not only allows me to develop my own interpersonal skills but also allows me to make college a bit less stressful for my peers”.
