Languages students hear from Lancaster University
On Thursday 10 October, the Recruitment Manager, a Senior Teaching Associate in German Studies and a Student Ambassador from Lancaster University visited OSFC to talk to our AS French and Spanish students about studying Languages at university and careers with languages. The student ambassador gave students an honest insight into their experiences of studying a language at university level. The session was very informative, enlightening students about careers that use languages, university options and why, despite Brexit, languages make for a good choice of degree.
The French Students really enjoyed the talk. Oliver was further inspired to follow his dreams to study Linguistics, Raz can now see why choosing to study a language might help her in her plans to study Dentistry. Charlotte saw the session very much as a fact finding opportunity and looked into the options available at Lancaster and was interested in the course set up there. She thought that it was a good idea to make students choose a third “minor” subject. Megan’s fascination with languages was taken to new extremes and she is even more enthusiastic about the possibility of continuing with French in Higher Education.
The Spanish students found the talk very inspirational: Ayeza said, ‘I think the talk was very informative, it will be very useful for when I begin to apply for university (which is soon!)’. Fellow student Aliza added, ‘I found this very useful; it contained lots of information including what university life is like’.
Certainly an inspiring visit with a light-hearted but informative stance.
