Textiles

Course Summary:

Textiles will focus on the development of design and craft skills. No prior designing or making experience is required, as all of the skills and techniques you will need to use will be introduced on the course. You will work with a range of materials and techniques and have the opportunity to explore decorative surfaces and wearable design. The course is for those who want to learn how to work through a process of research, design and making which will result in individual and original pieces of work. Whilst you study, you will examine a variety of artist and designer work to inspire your own pieces. Using these methods you will build up a portfolio of practical work that is exciting, inventive and individual.

Textiles is a useful course for HE courses and careers in all areas of Art, Design and Crafts, such as Fashion and Textiles, Fashion Design, Costume Design, Fashion Stylist, Embroidery Operator, Milliner and Wallpaper Design. You will also develop a range of transferable skills, including creative skills and the ability to respond to a concept or idea.

Entry Requirements:

Minimum of a grade 4 in Art and Design GCSE subject. However we may accept individuals who do not have prior Art and Design qualifications but demonstrate their suitability for the course through portfolio work.

Year 1 and Year 2 100% coursework
