On Thursday 19 December, former students and their guests enjoyed a fantastic informal reunion with staff before prize-winners attended a highly enjoyable ceremony, where they were presented with awards for their amazing achievements by special guest and former OSFC student, Dr Farah Farzana, who is now a junior doctor, having studied Medicine at The University of Manchester after leaving the College.

Farah was delighted to have been asked to return as guest speaker for the evening; “It was incredible to be back at OSFC. It brought all the memories right back! The positive environment at OSFC is still so infectious. I couldn’t stop smiling all night. It was so amazing to see all my wonderful teachers and give them a big hug! I was so privileged and honoured to come back as guest speaker and meet all the former students receiving awards. It was an incredible event, it really showcased how a student can shine with the support and encouragement of teachers. I am forever grateful to all my experiences at OSFC, it has really shaped me as the individual I am today.”

A total of 110 Subject and Progress prizes were awarded in addition to 103 prizes for Outstanding Achievement. A further 7 special prizes were awarded including the Governors’ Prize won this year by Jessica Frater (pictured). Jessica was a worthy winner of this prize and a dedicated student during her time at OSFC achieving phenomenal grades (A*A*A) whilst thoroughly involving herself in extracurricular activities to broaden her experiences. She is now at Cambridge University studying Psychology.

In her closing remarks, Executive Principal Jayne Clarke highlighted the fact that the class of 2019 had achieved the best A Level pass rate and vocational results in the college’s history. She highlighted what a very special place OSFC is and spoke of her pride in the college’s role in establishing The Pinnacle Learning Trust, in partnership with The Hathershaw College, which now includes Werneth Primary School.  She also thanked staff, parents and partners involved with the College for their support and students for being such a wonderful group of young people.
