At Oldham Sixth Form College, we are dedicated to the fundamental British values which promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our students and of society. We believe our commitment to these values enables our students to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence.We aim to embody the fundamental British values below, in all our work across the college.
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
At OSFC, we believe the British values are best promoted through a strong college community which is founded on a set of core values. We have recently gone through a process, involving students, staff and governors, to explore our core college values. After much discussion and debate, and using our initials as a mnemonic, we have decided upon:
We are Open
We are an open college, where students have access to wide-ranging opportunities and a safe environment to meet new people and celebrate diversity. We are a college built around mutual respect, where students have the freedom and liberty to ask questions and express themselves in accordance with the law.
We are Successful
We are a successful college, where students are equipped with outstanding knowledge and skills, and challenged to raise their aspirations and reach their potential, regardless of their background, abilities or beliefs, so they can play a positive part in British society.
We are Family
We are a college family, bound by a commitment to respect individuality and difference, and to share positive future aspirations. Our students are understanding and tolerant of others, and willing to stand up for one another against injustice and oppression through democracy and fairness.
We are Confident
We are a confident college, where students are given the responsibility to work hard become resilient and transform their future. Our students benefit from strong partnerships and pathways, learn from challenges and experience, and are ready to continue their journey with conviction and purpose.
