OSFC returns to Olympathon Glory!

2022 was the year that OSFC’s Olympathon returned. OLYMPATHON IX continued and built upon the success and legacy of one our college’s greatest charitable efforts.

Together at Oldham Sixth Form College, our PE department has been running the Olympathon for over a decade. It not only helps charity, but supports team building and bonding. It is a chance for students to interact with each other and staff in a way that traditional learning does not provide, it is a unique opportunity to build the foundation for skills that will continue on to later life. In the past few years, Covid has put a halt to this but we are happy to say this is no more, Olympathon IX marked the return and continuation of a proud college tradition.

This year's Olympathon came with a twist, it was planned and supported by Year 13 students (with light support and guidance from College staff). Through their efforts over a gruelling 26.2 hour marathon, they have so far been able to raise £2,596 for two causes close to all our hearts, Cancer Research UK and MIND.

The Olympathon is a gruelling 26.2 hour sporting event consisting of 26 sporting activities over a 26 hour period, inspired by classic Olympic events. Students are split into 6 teams and work nonstop, switching up their activities on the hour. It is a tremendous feat and something that is truly commendable. Through their dedication and determination, they were able to reach their targets and beyond. We are proud of all they have achieved.

The event for 2022 began at 09:00 on Thursday 11th March and finished on Friday 12th March at 11:20.

Support everyone provided was greatly appreciated, these are great charities to support, that really help people.

The Olympathon is a 26.2 hour sporting event that encompasses a variety of different sports. This year for the first time ever the event was organised, planned and ran by our exceptional Year 13 students. The Olympathon is an event that helps bring together not only the department but the college as a whole, with money being raised for charities chosen by the students. This year the money raised is being split between Mind and Cancer Research. The event helps to push the typical Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect as all participants display these on a regular basis over the duration of the event. They do this through creating new friends and furthering already made friendships and pushing each other to the limit whilst participating in the multitude of sports.
