"I chose photography when coming to OSFC because I always had an interest in it and wanted to properly learn how to take and edit photographs. I have learnt so many techniques whilst exploring different aspects of photographs, looking at studio work, landscape photography, urban and documentary photography, whilst also learning how to use the camera properly - changing the shutter speed, F stop and aperture. I will always be able to use photography, and will carry on doing it as a hobby throughout my life."

A minimum grade 4 in an Art subject at GCSE is required. Exceptions may be made for able students who can supply a portfolio of work at enrolment.
What Will You Learn?
You will enjoy Photography if you have a creative eye and an interest in exploring photography techniques, experimenting with editing and learning what makes a photograph visually successful. On the course, you will learn about photography in different contexts with themes of work including People, Environment and Photomanipulation. You will be taught how to use a DSLR cameras to create a variety of innovative images and how to use Adobe Photoshop to enhance photographs further. Projects will allow you to explore ideas through a thorough design process and you will be introduced to a variety of existing photographers to inspire and inform your own creative development.

- Portraiture (this includes studio based work)

- Architecture

Special Features
- You will have the opportunity to enhance your learning through visits to galleries and exhibitions and trips to places of local interest as well as project specific locations such as Manchester City centre, Dovestone reservoir and The Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
- You can also take part in a wide variety of student photography competitions and other opportunities such as Social Media and Marketing.
Where Will This Lead?
Photography leads to many HE Art & Design courses or careers in a range of Photographic Disciplines from Photography to Art Editing, Medical Illustrating, TV or Film Camera Operating, Drone Piloting, Photography Directing, Graphic Designing, Fashion, Film, Advertising, Photo Editing, Journalism and Social Media & Marketing. Photography also develops a wide range of skills, including critical analysis, creativity and practical problem solving.
Students have gone on to study for degrees in Photography, Multimedia Journalism , Graphic and Communication Design, Fashion, Social Media Marketing, VFX, Games Design and Branding.
