This week at OSFC our students, new and old, have had the chance to find out about all the volunteering opportunities available to them in the college and the local area. Over lunchtime and throughout the afternoon an array of stalls were set up in The Street to open students’ eyes to the array of volunteering possibilities available.
Our students are now aware of the increasing competition for university places and in the current job market and know they have to find ways to make themselves stand out from the crowd. There is also a sense of community spirit amongst our students and a desire to give something back to their community. Rebekah, from Mahdlo Youth Zone said, “It has been brilliant meeting so many young people, there has been lots of interest and such a positive atmosphere here at OSFC”. One of our students, Shafikul Alam, explained why they came along to the volunteering fair: “I came to see what I can do to help out the community. It gives me something to do and I have fun doing it; I’m particularly interested in visiting elderly people and listening to their stories.”
It’s not too late to get involved in volunteering at OSFC. To find out more please contact Anne McCulloch firstname.lastname@example.org.
