BTEC Business football teamOn a sunny day at the prestigious St George’s Park whilst the England U21s were training, they represented OSFC at the national college football tournament having impressed at tournaments held at OSFC. Colleges from around the country took part in the tournament held on the 4G pitch named after David Beckham.

Seen as major underdogs, the BTEC students managed to show that Leicester are not the only team to make the impossible – possible. In the league section, they were unbeaten, came top of the league, top scorers and had the most clean sheets (4 consecutive clean sheets) due to our fearless goalkeeper (Raheem) and centre back (Ali). All players scored important goals with our own Paul Pogba (Torell) controlling games, scoring and assisting both our strikers (Kamran and Callum).

Sadly, we were forced to withdraw from the semi-final due to a serious injury to Callum and a minor injury to Torell. The team were destined to win but sadly they will have to wait another year.

Sports teacher and a qualified UEFA coach, David Jackson said ‘it was a fantastic day out for the students and it is a shame the England scouts were not watching. We wish Callum a speedy recovery’. BTEC Business Course Leader, Yahya Goga added that ‘The success of the team comes as no surprise. The students give their all in BTEC Business and are all due to gain Distinctions at the end of the year. We encourage them to be hardworking, committed and to never give up in everything they do and they did exactly that at the tournament. Callum is on crutches and we hope he recovers and comes back stronger. To highlight his determination, he came to college the next day and was working hard on his assignments and we expect nothing less from our students”.
