On Tuesday 22nd November students from OSFC’s Amnesty Society held a cake sale to raise money and awareness of breaches of Human Rights in the UK. The society is youth led, and facilitated by staff from the Law department. Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people in over 150 countries who campaign to end abuses of human rights.
President Amelia Simm said, “I am strongly for equal rights and really care about people, which is why I joined the society when I started at OSFC.” Amelia hopes to continue her campaigns into a career as a political speaker for those in need.
The Amnesty Society’s next campaign will be ‘Refugees Welcome’, and they are also going to London to meet with Anti-Slavery International and campaigning in Parliament at the end of the month. The society also plans to meet an activist from Mauritania to help the cause by letter writing to show support.
