On 6 March 2019 AS and A Level Spanish students loved taking part in an Essay Writing for Film day at Manchester Metropolitan University. The session was led by the head of Spanish, Carmen Herrero and it focused on El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan’s Labyrinth) by Guillermo del Toro. The workshop involved various activities, where the students were provided with information on the themes, characters and the film context, which are topics of the essay question in the final exam.

Spanish Tutor Gemma Curto stated, “the session has helped the students to develop their language skills and they have thoroughly enjoyed thought provoking group discussions on the film.”
AS Spanish student Ranjidah Hoque said, ‘the trip was very beneficial as I was able to revise the techniques and vocab. It was also useful to revise the film analysis and essay structure’. A Level student Grace Lear added that she it found useful when ‘the teacher gave synonyms that we [they] could use and the advice she gave on the structure of the essay’. Spanish Tutor Gemma said: “We would like to thank Carmen Herrero for organising such a fantastic event.”
