A group of 11 OSFC students were among the volunteers who helped out at this year’s very successful Oldham half-marathon on Sunday 12 October. The students – Iqra Batool, Iram Sonya, Joshua Kershaw, Zoe James, Abigail Wild, Lauren Sheldon Mohammed Qureshi, Yi Jun Lin, Tamina Qasir, Saaba Rashid, and Hannah Smedley – all responded to a request from Steve Tyrrell, the Oldham School Games Organiser, who had been asked to find some volunteers who were willing to give up their Sunday lie-in to help out at the event.
“The organisers were very grateful to all the OSFC students who gave up their time to volunteer on the day. We were very impressed with their mature and sensible approach and they all proved a real asset to the delivery of this major event.”
“I really enjoyed the day and it has definitely inspired me to train for the half marathon myself next year!”
“I enjoyed volunteering as it gave me a real flavour of what employment in an organisational role would be like and I felt really useful.”
