OSFC Hosts North West Oxbridge Launch
On Thursday 31 January, 60 Year 12 OSFC students alongside groups of students from the sixth forms of Blue Coat, Crompton House, Hulme Grammar and King David High School attended the launch of the Oxbridge Scheme in the North West for 2019.
Academics and admissions staff from Oxford and Cambridge delivered motivating talks, encouraging the students to aim high and aspire to study at these prestigious universities. The students were given further information about the Oxbridge application and interview process for 2019, as well as a greater insight into how best to prepare themselves for an Oxbridge application.
Richard Lee, Assistant Principal, and Oxbridge Group Coordinator at OSFC, said “We were delighted that we were chosen to host the Oxbridge launch event this year, to welcome staff from both universities and students from 4 local schools and OSFC. It is great that so many local students are considering Oxbridge and have the academic ability and dedication to apply. We wish them the best of luck with their studies and applications.”
OSFC has a well-established Oxbridge Group, alongside the Varsity Tutor Group Programme for students interested in other Russell Group universities, as well as an Aspiring Medics’ Programme (AMP) and an Aspiring Lawyers’ Programme (ALP). We aim to ensure all students with high aspirations are fully prepared for the arduous application processes for such prestigious destinations. We were very pleased, recently, to learn that 7 Year 12 students had been accepted on to the selective OxNet programme. Megan Bruton, Chloe Butler and Lydia Schofield (all ex-Saddleworth School), Megan Scoltock and Natasha Watkins (both ex-Royton & Crompton), Iqra Khadiza (ex-Oldham Academy North) and Katie Glover-Jones (ex-Manchester High School for Girls) have all recently returned from a day at Pembroke College, Oxford, for the start of this year’s programme. This will be followed by a number of weekly seminars in Manchester with Oxford academics, an Easter conference and a week’s summer school in Oxford. This is an amazing experience and perfect preparation for an Oxbridge application. It is fantastic that our students have secured a record number of places and we look forward to hearing of their progress.
