Award Winning Science Centre
Science Centre AwardWe're pleased to announce that the Regional Science Centre Oldham has won the Schools and Colleges category in this year's prestigious S-Lab awards.
This award scheme recognises and showcases safe, successful and sustainable laboratory best practice and has been established with support from the four UK higher education funding bodies. It aims to highlight and share best practice in laboratory design, management and use and is run collaboratively with UK STEM universities by the University of Bradford-based Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement (HEEPI) project. Although its main focus is in universities, the initiative is increasingly working with commercial and private sector laboratories and Oldham Sixth Form College received its award for "Innovation and Outreach Through a New Regional Science Centre".
The award was presented to College Assistant Principal Alan Matear during a ceremony at the National Science Learning Centre in York on 13th June. He commented "It is indeed a terrific achievement for Oldham Sixth Form College to have won this Award. We are tremendously excited about the science opportunities we are offering to students and school pupils alike in what is a truly fantastic facility. We want to enable young people to explore the practical application of scientific discoveries, theories and processes from as early an age as possible and the Regional Science Centre has really allowed this to become a reality with our work with Primary and Secondary schools.
To have received this recognition from a range of scientific bodies is testament to the innovative outreach work we are engaged with here and, of course, this is an area of activity we want to develop even further in the future."
