Media student winners have a bright future ahead

Media Students

The media department at OSFC is celebrating their success this week with two national awards.

2 teams of AS media students entered The Video Moving Competition organised by World Skills UK, where they had to research, develop, storyboard and submit a proposal for an original idea or concept for a thirty second television programme title sequence called ‘BLOCKED’.  The OSFC teams were chosen out of 45 national entries to pitch their idea to a panel of top industry professionals at the WorldSkills UK Video Moving Image UK Final at The Institute of Creative Enterprise in Coventry on June 18th.

Oldham 6th Form students have now scooped top prizes 11 times from first entering the UK Skills Media Competitions in 2004 and this year, the teams were awarded Silver Medal and Highly Commended (4th prize).  The judges praised the Oldham entries on their professionalism and creativity; the judging panel (Richard Caunt – Producer / Head of British Youth Film Academy, Steve Dawkins – Senior University Lecturer and Media Author, Shona Auerbach, Independent Film maker, director of bafta award winning Dear Frankie) had no doubt that all 7 students have great futures in the creative industries.

Head of Media, Fiona Douglas-Reeves commented: “It was a very intense day; the10 national teams were all very well prepared.  Our students deserve this recognition; they worked so hard for it.  All 7 students have a great deal of talent and flair for creative ideas and it was great to hear the judges speak so highly of them.  What a shame we got pipped at the post on the day…there’s always next year!!”

Silver Prize went to Cassie Hunsley, James Oldham and Jessica Shipman
and
Highly Commended to Leanne Carpenter, Rachel Jacob, Adam Parkinson and Paige Rodgers
