OSFC Dance Showcase Raises £600 For Charity

The College's Dance students had the chance to demonstrate their skills in front of a live audience during two Dance Showcases held in our purpose built Lecture Theatre on 12th May.

Each year the students are assessed on their choreographic and performance skills by an external moderator and often this work goes unseen. The showcases, one a matinee and one in the evening, gave them the chance to perform these pieces once again and also included a selection of dances created during Aim Higher and enrichment activities.

Having made the decision to put on these Showcases, the students wanted to use them to raise funds for charity and chose The Daniel Bewley Trust Fund for research into MNGIE. Both played to full houses and raised a total of £600.

Included in the performances were Kyle Lawson and James Kay, who have both been accepted on to Dance courses at prestigious conservatoires. In September Kyle will be joining the Northern Contemporary Dance Conservatoire in Leeds to study Dance Performance while James will be studying the same subject at Laban in London.

Sharon Bell, Course Leader for Dance at the College said "..I am so proud of our students and how hard they have worked to put on these two Showcases. To raise such a fantastic amount of money is a testament to the dedication and commitment of every one of them. This year has been very successful with many of our students going on to study dance related subjects at University and theatre schools. It is a demonstration of the ethos of the College and how all staff in the Performing Arts department work hard to give students from local communities the best opportunities to succeed."
