Students with The Mayor Students with The Mayor

A team from Oldham Sixth Form College was presented with a silver rose bowl by the Mayor of Oldham on 25th May when they won the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Masterclass at The Queen Elizabeth Hall Oldham.

Four teams from the College entered this event, facing stiff competition from schools and colleges across the borough.  As well as the rose bowl trophy, our teams were awarded prizes for their negotiation and presentation skills.

The event consisted of a one day competitive challenge based on solving real-life science, engineering, maths and technology problems and was also attended by representatives from the business community. Teams followed simple project management techniques and learned very valuable skills for working life - including team working, negotiating and presenting.

Andrew Hodson, a Biology tutor at the College who accompanied the students said, ā€œI’d like to congratulate all our students who took part in this Masterclass.  They performed very well on the day and were a real credit to the College, demonstrating a high level of practical skill as well as academic knowledge. They should all be very proud of themselves.ā€
