Forensic Psychology Conference

Year 13 psychology students attended a Forensic Psychology Conference on the 25th and 26th February.  The Conference was a fascinating insight into what motivates criminal behaviour and the consequences of conviction for crimes ranging through shoplifting, burglary and murder.  Ex-prisoners gave candid and graphic personal accounts of their time behind bars and the psychological effects of penal servitude following their release back into the community.

A Forensic Psychologist who carries out assessments on prisoners to measure their suitability for release presented her role to the students in afternoon seminars and gave an overview of Psychopathy explaining how profiling is used to help narrow the search for  the most dangerous criminals.
The students were also given talks on prison life and had the opportunity to discuss the individual experiences of the speakers in question and answer sessions.

The conference was an introduction to the Forensic Unit being studied by Year 13 students has provided a rich source of references during classroom discussions since.
