Health & Social Care students with Helen Ramsden
Health & Social Care students with Julie HetheringtonHealth & Social Care students and staff gave up their Saturday morning on 13th March to help out with a collection in Oldham for the new Christies Radiotherapy Centre.
The two tutors, Helen Ramsden and Julie Hetherington, said “We were really impressed by the number of students who volunteered to come along and give up their spare time to help Christies in this way. They should all be very proud of themselves.”
This new £17 million centre will have two £1.3 million radiotherapy machines, and other high-tech equipment. Christie doctors, specialist radiographers, nurses and other medical experts will be able to treat 70 people a day who would have otherwise had to make the trip to The Christie site in south Manchester. Local patients from areas including Oldham, Rochdale, North Manchester, Middleton and Tameside will be treated at at the centre, mainly for the most common cancers such as breast, prostate and lung.
The students were invited to take part in the collection by Jacky Plant, Community Officer for the Charity who said “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Oldham Sixth Form College for their continued support of The Christie. As you can see it truly makes a massive difference to our aim towards a future without cancer.”
