Business Studies Conference

Business students with Speakers Business Studies students with Speakers

Four speakers from a range of businesses came in to speak to almost 300 of our students at the annual Business Studies Conference on Tuesday 23rd February.

The speakers and their topics were:

  • Abul Shama, Recruitment Supervisor at Enterprise Car Rental – “The Economics of the Rental Car Market ”
  • Niall Wright, Director AA Construction – “Managing a Construction Business in a Difficult Economic Environment”
  • Aashish Khadia, Information Services Director, University College Birmingham “Managing Business Information in the Public Sector”
  • Mehul Barot, Customer Experience Manager, British Gypsum “Managing Customer Needs Through a Recession”

The idea of the Conference is to give students the chance to hear first- hand accounts of how people manage their businesses in real life. They are encouraged to ask questions at the end of each half hour talk and business tutors will follow up the work in future classes.  Between them the speakers cover most of the subjects studied by the students from Accounting and Marketing to Human Resources.

Jim Barr, Course Leader for Business Studies and Accounting at the College said “This Conference is an invaluable opportunity for our students to meet people who work in the kind of businesses they’re learning about in their course. We’re very grateful to them for taking the time to come into College and help the business-people of the future in this way.”
