A Gold Star in Maths for Joe
Joe MolloyCongratulations to Joe Molloy - the first OSFC student to progress to Round 1 of the British Maths Olympiad.
The Senior Maths Challenge is a national competition run for 16-18 year old mathematicians – the questions are set at a very high level and there are prizes of Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates. Joe received three certificates in total – Gold, Best in College and Competitor in Round 1 of the British Maths Olympiad.
Thomas Butler, Joe’s Maths tutor, said "Joe studied A2 Maths in just 1 year – and gained an A Grade last August. He then decided to drop this subject – so his good run in this extremely difficult competition was achieved with a minimal amount of preparation. I’m sure his very good problem solving skills, and his knack for seeing straight through a maths problem to the most efficient method for solving it, made a huge contribution to his success."
