Visits from professional experts are an important part of our Health & Social Care course and last year one such visitor was Felicity Keeling, who works for Macmillan Cancer Support. During her visit to College she met a group of students and talked to them about the work done by her organisation to support people with cancer and also their families, friends and carers.
Meeting Felicity helped inspire the group to organise a coffee morning in College to raise funds for the charity. They prepared and served cakes, biscuits and drinks to other students and members of the team, and raised £64.00 in the process.
Even more inspired were Julianne Lucas and Emma Crawley. As a result of listening to the ways in which Macmillan supports people through difficult times they volunteered to give up some of their free time to collect money in their local Morrison’s store.
Course tutor Elaine Bowker said “The students really enjoyed helping to organise this event and it was a great success. We’re all really proud of their efforts and their commitment to helping people less fortunate than themselves. This kind of attitude will definitely help them be successful in any future career in the health and care sectors.”
