Ashleigh Scores Highly

Ashleigh Melvin
Congratulations to former OSFC student Ashleigh Melvin who was among the top scorers nationally in this year’s Certificate for Financial Studies exams. The College offered this course for the first time in 2008-9 and, in a list of results for the top 100 students published by the ifs School of Finance, Ashleigh featured in the top 2% - a fantastic achievement.
After leaving College, Ashleigh immediately secured a job with RSM Bentley Jennison – a prestigious Accountancy firm in Manchester. She is working as an Assistant Forensic Accountant and is also on day release to study for her AAT and ACCA qualifications. She hopes to be a qualified Accountant by the time she’s 21.
Ashleigh says “I chose to study the CeFS because I was already doing subjects that would help me get in to a career in Accountancy and knew this would add to my qualifications. I think it’s a very useful subject as it relates to what is going on in the outside world and it helped me understand things like the different mortgages available, different savings accounts and the best way to manage money. It really helped when I applied for my job as they were asking me about topics such as the credit crunch and inflation rates and I was able to give them detailed explanations and knew what I was talking about. My job is great – it’s secure, I’m being paid to do my qualifications and I get to travel a lot!”
