Dyslexia: See Things Differently

Dyslexia Awareness Display
Monday 5th October saw the start of the College’s annual Dyslexia Awareness Week. As always, the emphasis of this week was on the strengths people with dyslexia often have, rather than just the problem areas. These strengths include problem-solving, lateral and creative thinking and working well in 3D.
Our interactive display on this theme included a giant Rubik’s cube made by Aim Higher Art students, mind-boggling puzzles (with even some freebies to take away), and information posters on dyslexia and dyspraxia made by students in dyslexia workshops.
Around 10% of the population are affected by dyslexia, and in any one year the College has around 50 such students. They are very successful in our inclusive College. Dyslexia Awareness Week always prompts a large number of students to come forward seeking information about dyslexia, and dyslexia assessments. For more information about dyslexia please contact Owen Barden (obn@osfc.ac.uk), the College’s Inclusive Learning Manager.
