Oldham Sixth Form College’s netball team gave it their all on Wednesday 26th November to win the North West British Colleges netball tournament. They beat 18 teams from across the North West and will now go on to represent the North West Region at Bath University in the British Colleges National Finals.
Wednesday achievement was led by the teams joints captains Megan Gardner and Olivia Harris with Olivia optimising the teams arousal levels during warm ups and Meg keeping the court steady with her calming words. Hannah Robinson and Leah Tomlin also backed up the centre court keeping our possession and sending some inspiring balls into the shooters. Many teams suffer during such long tournaments when they rely on one dominant shooter but OSFC’s team have 3 shooters – Paige Gardner, Imogen Heanue Campbell and Amy Clinton, each being equally mobile and highly accurate. The team stood out from the rest by retaining their position and producing some inspirational interceptions. Isabel hole and Abigail Tyrell are the teams towering defence along with Chinma Ebizie whose reach and jumps performed some outstanding possessions throughout the tournament enabling the team to achieve some very convincing wins:
Burnley 24 – 3
Loreto 12 – 7
Runshaw 18 – 7
Holy Cross 16 – 8
Aquinas 20 – 4
Winstanley 18 – 8
Cardinal Newman 13 – 6
The tournament also provided an opportunity for the girls to showcase their talents in front of the team of scouts that attended looking to compile an elite British Colleges team comprising of only 10 netballers from across the country. Half of OSFC’s team were selected and received invitations to the next round.
A very proud day for Oldham Sixth Form College!
