Languages students attend The University of Manchester’s LEAF Conference
Last Monday 25th June, Spanish, French and German AS students attended the LEAF Conference at Manchester University, which has become a regular event in the Languages Department’s calendar. The students attended talks on studying languages at university, careers within the language industry and talks by language ambassadors who are currently studying languages at the university. Our students appreciated how undergraduate students were on hand and offered an honest student perspective on what it is like studying languages at university level.
The talks were really informative and the students also had a range of different workshops including extra masterclass sessions aimed at improving students’ A level languages, delivered by university lecturers.
OSFC students enjoyed learning the basics in a new language in the same way that a new language can be picked up at university from scratch.
Blessing Adekahunsi, AS Spanish student, said about the event, ‘Thank you to the University of Manchester for this trip; I learned the different options that I have if I decide to do anything related to languages in university.’
Grace Lear, AS Spanish student said, ‘I really enjoyed the day as it has given me an insight into studying languages at university. Also, the taster sessions were very useful especially as one of these languages can be studied as a joint honours.’
Diana Oiebamidji, AS Spanish student said, ‘I really liked the teachers’ attitudes and how nice and friendly they were with us. Also, the student ambassadors were very nice and friendly too.’
Course Leader for Spanish Gemma Curto said, ‘Thanks University of Manchester Languages Department for organising the LEAF event, it has been an excellent event and extremely useful for our students. We are looking forward to join you next year’
