Oldham Sixth Form College is a vibrant and thriving place to work. It is a newly built College with state of the art facilities and resources, which aid us in providing the best education for our students. The ethos of the College allows all the young people from Oldham and the surrounding areas to have the opportunity to progress and receive the best education. This gives us the opportunity to work with a range of young people. Joining Oldham Sixth Form College immediately places you as part of a strong professional team of staff, which includes management, subject tutors and support staff. You will be supported from the very first day ensuring you are happy within your place in college. Alongside the support from your Department, OSFC has a fantastic structure for new staff and NQTs. I joined as a secondary trained NQT, with not very much post-16 experience. However through the ‘new staff ’ development structure, I was supported throughout with all aspects of my teaching and learning, assessment for learning and much more. I also enjoyed the opportunity to share ideas amongst other staff.

I think Oldham Sixth Form College is a great place to work – that is probably why I have been here since the college opened in 1992. During my time at the college I have had the opportunity to change and develop my career and the college has been very supportive of my work life balance. It is a dynamic place to work and has a lovely atmosphere, all staff work really well together and we have a very supportive management team. The building is maintained to a really high standard, with access to state of the art technology and modern, comfortable surroundings, making it a wonderful environment for both staff and students to work in. I am always proud to say I work at Oldham Sixth Form College.

I started working at OSFC in the second year of its existence as a tutor for sociology. I was immediately attracted by the friendly, supportive staff and the clear focus on meeting the needs of the local community. I became course leader for GNVQ Intermediate Health and Social Care when it was introduced and I have been HOMA for Sociology, Health and Social Care, Religious Studies and Citizenship for a number of years now. As part of this role I have found that the managers in the college aim to work collaboratively with teams and the direction of the college from the senior management team is always shared and transparent, which is refreshing. The strength of relationships between staff and students, coupled with the diverse cultural, ethnic and religious mix make the college a dynamic and exciting place to work. Indeed, the sense that working here is making a real difference to the community makes it hard to see anywhere better to be in this sector.

I attended Oldham Sixth Form College as a student and really enjoyed the relaxed, happy but constructive atmosphere. As a person with Cerebral Palsy the facilities and support offered here helped me make a smooth transition to higher education. I returned to teach here as Head of Religious Studies. The invigorating cultural, ethnic and religious mix within College makes it a refreshing and dynamic place to work. The fact that a supportive and constructive ethos exists amongst both staff and students has contributed greatly to the excellent results achieved by the institution. The success of the College is underpinned by the positive strong relationships that are fostered between staff and students, whether this be professionally in classroom, or socially, for instance, through playing football with other colleagues.
