On Wednesday 15th February, 50 of OSFC’s Business students were invited to find out about the exciting Oldham Enterprise Fund. Our aspiring entrepreneurs heard from Graham McKendrick and Kashif Ashraf about the opportunities available for under 25s wanting to start their own business.
Since the fund started in November 2013, there have been 100 recipients of £138,000 in grants, with the average grant being £3,500. Inspiring entrepreneurs also have access to free business support and advice. Kashif Ashraf said, “I run the Oldham Enterprise Trust, trying to make young people aware of enterprise and the skills required. Today we hope to inspire them and help bring Oldham back to the forefront of business.”
Our students also heard from two recipients of the grant, Eric Bishiyka, a fashion entrepreneur, and Sonia Ayaz, a past OSFC student and designer of vegan handbags. Sonia praised the Business tutors at OSFC, saying, “I learnt everything I know from the people in this room and I wouldn’t have got where I am without them.” She also praised the Oldham Enterprise Fund as a fantastic opportunity aspiring local entrepreneurs couldn’t afford to miss out on.
Good luck to our Business students with their future endeavours!
