German student’s incredible summer work experience
Tom Anchor, a year 13 student at Oldham Sixth Form College, has recently spent 2 weeks in the Bavarian city of Regensburg gaining valuable work experience as an intern at the German manufacturing company, Krones.
Tom, who previously studied at The Blue Coat School, is currently studying A Levels in History, French and German, and hopes to continue his passion for languages to university and a degree in French and German.
Tom spent one week working in Krones’ metal department and one week working in the electronics department. The work was very hands on, as Tom worked on circuit boards and drilled different types of metal, so the language was very different to what he had been studying in the UK. Outside of work, Tom enjoyed cycling along the Danube River and in the beautiful Bavarian countryside. He also has lots of opportunities to sightsee, visiting a world heritage site, churches, cathedrals and memorials.
Tom said, “I really enjoyed my time in Germany and it really helped to enhance my language skills and my cultural understanding of Germany, and hopefully it will help me in my degree in the future. Doing something similar would be really beneficial for anyone who is serious about studying languages.”
