Student Profiles
Jahida Begum - Health & Social Care
"I studied GCSE Health & Social Care at the College and wanted to learn more in-depth detail of the topics covered. I enjoy doing presentations to the class and finding out more about different people's opinions on certain lifestyle factors such as exercise, smoking etc.
I was picked to join the Aim Higher course and this has helped me a great deal as it offers extra help and information about the units in this subject. It's also provided me with very useful exam techniques and helped me gain knowledge on how to select the course I want to do in university and which university I want to go to.
I hope to do a teaching degree when I leave college and become an early years' teacher."
Michelle Quinn - Health & Social Care
"I decided to study this subject because I want to work in a health and social care setting. I've enjoyed studying the variety of topics on the course and finding out more about different job roles and client groups. When I leave College I want to do an art foundation course and then teacher training to become a secondary school teacher or perhaps go on to university to become a registered nurse."
Sara Buckley - Health & Social Care
Sara came to us from The Radclyffe School and displayed outstanding ability throughout the course. Her work was beyond what we could be expected at advanced level and she also displayed a caring nature and exhibited the highest level of motivation. Sara won the Subject Prize for Health & Social Care at our Celebration Evening in December 2006 and is now at the University of Salford studying Social Work.
Chloe Reed - Psychology
"I chose Psychology because it is a subject that I had never studied before and I thought it sounded interesting - and I was proved right! I like finding out about the different aspects of Psychology and learning about why we act the way we do."
Waqar Rizvi - Psychology
"I decided to study Psychology because I read about it and it seemed very interesting. Also, it ties in with other subjects I enjoyed such as Law, History and Geography and I thought this variety of subjects would be enjoyable. You get out of it what you put in - it is not too complicated and I have a nice teacher and fellow students. Learning theories is a particular favourite of mine."
Deepa Mistry - Psychology
"I chose to study this subject because I thought it would be something different from what you would usually study at school and I thought it would go really well with all my other subjects. I find it interesting because you can test yourself in some areas eg in the memory unit you can test your own memory. I enjoyed learning about abnormalities in particular as you get to find out about eating disorders and other abnormal behaviour which I thought was fascinating. I think Psychology is a great subject that I have had fun in and learnt a lot from."
Katie Wood - Psychology
"I visited the Psychology Department on a taster day and found it interesting and also the College has an excellent reputation for this subject. I enjoy learning about human behaviour and why we act in the way we do. When I finish College I want to go on to university to study either criminology or criminal psychology. After that, I am planning to apply join the police force."
Eyaz Zahoor - Psychology
"I have found Psychology to be very interesting - it has proven to be a challlenging and worthwhile subject. It is also enjoyable and is different from some of the other subjects I study as you often take part in class discussions which I have enjoyed most. After College I am hoping to carry on to University and intend to study dentistry or medicine."
