Student Profiles

Hayley Hepworth - Hollingworth BEC
“I admit I never really liked Maths at school but I picked it because I knew it would be useful for my future career. However I found AS Maths much more interesting and I'm glad I continued it to this level. I like studying Maths because it helps me think logically and improves my problem solving skills – it’s the kind of subject where you can figure out an answer in an exam even if you've never come across the type of question before. Most people say the jump to AS Maths from GCSE is really difficult, but although some parts of the course are challenging, the OSFC Maths department is really helpful so you can always be confident you can receive extra support if you need it. Hopefully, after College, I’d like to go to university and study medicine – then progress to become a doctor or surgeon in the future”

Mital Chothani - Canons High School, London
“Maths has always been one of my favourite subjects. I decided to study it because I felt that it would give me the reasoning abilities that are pivotal for virtually all areas of study. I also like the diversity of the subject. I hope to go on to study Maths and Management at university and take up a career in Actuarial Science”

Jack Monaghan - Mossley Hollins School
“I was good at Maths at school and wanted the challenge of Further Maths. I also knew that it would look good on my CV and be very useful in both applying for, and once I got to, university. I’ve enjoyed it because the topics are difficult enough to stretch you while not being so hard that you feel lost or out of your depth. Maths has also been a great help in my other subjects and has put me at an advantage to students who hadn’t taken it. I’ve also enjoyed the wide range of extra-curricular activities made available through the Maths department, such as university visits as far a field as Exeter and attending Maths lectures and campus tours. I hope to go on to university to study Physics, which is largely Maths orientated – there are several Maths modules on my course”

Mohammed Akhtar - Matthew Moss School
“I decided to study Maths as I have always enjoyed this subject, and it combines well with my other subjects. The work is set at a good pace so there is no chance of you “lagging” behind others. The teaching is excellent and so I can understand the hard parts of the subject with ease. Anyone considering studying Maths should definitely go for it! When I leave OSFC I intend to study Dentistry at the University of Manchester.”

Carissa Lo - Kaskenmoor School
“I decided to study Maths at College because I wanted to learn how it was applied in life situations. I was also quite good at problem solving in this subject. When I leave College I plan to go on to university to study Graphic Design”
