Additional Entry Qualifications
It is desirable to also study AS Level Maths.
If you do not, you must have a Grade A in GCSE Maths.
About the Course
You will develop an understanding of the principles of problem
solving and an appreciation of the range of applications of
computers and how they work. The theory will cover aspects
of hardware, software, data and communications. The practical
work will involve programming in Visual Basic with a limited
introduction to HTML and ASP in the second year.

Possible Progression
Computing courses in HE, Software Engineering or careers where
a knowledge of computing would be beneficial.
Electronics
Additional Entry Qualifications
C or above in GCSE Maths, GCSE Science Core and Additional
Science or GCSE Electronics is essential. Students with only a
Grade C in Maths at the Foundation Level will be required to
successfully complete a Maths assessment in order to enrol on
to the course.
About the Course
People with knowledge of this subject are always in demand
because modern society is dependent on electronics, whether
it be for communicating, controlling machines, processing
information on computers or using modern medical techniques.
Electronics is a practical subject in which you will develop the
skills and knowledge required to design, make, test and modify
circuits to meet an agreed project target. Hands on experience
is a fundamental part of the course. We recommend you study
Maths to at least AS level to support development of the
necessary skills and to allow progression beyond A Level.

Possible Progression
HE courses in Engineering, Computing, Science and Media
Studies. Careers in areas such as the Electronic Industry,
Avionics, Theatre Production, Telecommunications.
Information Communication Technology
Additional Entry Qualifications
If you studied ICT at GCSE or equivalent you should have attained
at least a Grade C. You should also have a Grade C in English
Language and preferably a Grade C in Maths.
About the Course
If you have a strong interest in ICT, particularly business related IT
systems, and enjoy working with packages on the computer, this
course may suit you. You will develop an understanding of the
importance and relevance of computers and their applications in
the work environment and everyday life. You will gain practical
experience of using a wide range of hardware, software and
communication technologies in a structured way, so that you can
apply the skills, knowledge and understanding you’ve gained to
the solution of problems.

BTEC National For IT Practitioners: Award (1 A Level) and Certificate (2 A Levels)
Additional Entry Qualifications
In most cases, a C or CC Grade or above, or a Pass or above
in a BTEC First Diploma in ICT or DIDA (Four GCSE equivalent
qualification) is required. Students who did not take ICT at
school will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
About the Course
On this course you will study subjects such as Computer
Systems, Creating Websites, Advanced Spreadsheets and
Databases, Computer Animation and Digital Graphics. Award
students will complete three units each year and Certificate
students will complete six units each year. All work is completed
through internally assessed assignments and portfolios. These are
both TWO year courses and students opting to take them should
be sure that they are committed to the subject.
