Drew Campbell
"I've always been into Art & Design and wanted to do something a bit different from drawing and painting. Graphics lets you be creative and use your initiative. It is mostly computer based design, but I like the hand drawn sketching involved as well. You can be as different and imaginative as you like and show your personality through your work. When I leave College I would like to study Architecture at Nottingham or Sheffield University and go on to become a fully qualified architect."
Laura Bennett
"I decided to study Ceramics as it was a type art that I had only briefly covered in the past. I have always enjoyed making things when I was younger and as it was a subject I had never done I thought I would find it more interesting. I enjoy the freedom that my tutors give me when I work so I can explore and develop my skills. Though the course involved a lot of work I find the subject enjoyable and my tutors very helpful. OSFC has a very good Art department, full of highly qualified teachers. After I have completed my A Levels I want to go on to to do an Art Foundation degree to carry on developing my art skills."
Mohammed Ahad
"The resources of Art & Design are outstanding, especially the equipment. Oldham Sixth Form is great for technical help and provides outstanding support. I admire the idea of independent learning where students are allowed to maintain Art related work during free hours. The ambience in the Art department is always friendly and active. I enjoy studying Graphics Design and I would consider continuing to higher education."
Emma Pickering
"I studied Fine Art for many reasons. I've always enjoyed art as a subject in school and as a pass time and wanted to study a subject that allows me to be creative and learn about structure, development and the process that leads to producing a final piece to be proud of. Fine Art enables me to see art in a different way. When I see a piece of artwork now, I understand the process and development that has been put into it to try and portray a message or story. My sketch boards present my ideas, and the lessons are always fun, challenging and rewarding."
Gareth Dearden
"I decided to study 3D design because it's the foundation for all types of sculpture. I wanted to learn the processes taught to enable me to understand the development process of making the sculpture, further helping me with my ideas. I like the freedom of creating my sculptural ideas, and it helps that I am taught new techniques and helped by the teachers when I need it. When I leave College I would like to go on to an art based course at university and then pursue a job in the field of art and design - possibly in sculpture or transport design."
Amy and Emma Wren
Both Amy and Emma are studying Applied Art & Design and plan to carry on with their art studies in the future. Amy says "I decided to study this subject primarily for the love of art. The course has an excellent reputation and is a good choice for those who don't with to study one particular subject within art, as it offers a wide range of topics like creative design, graphics and fine art. I like the way we work; with set tasks and deadlines yet free to guide our own work and choose our own designs/outcomes." Emma agrees, adding "I enjoy studying this subject as I am able to choose how I wish to create my project and experiment with different media and techniques. I am very pleased that I decided to study art at OSFC and am happy with what the college has had to offer me so far".
