Additional Entry Qualifications
C or above in GCSE Art. Students who have not taken Art at GCSE will still be considered but must be able to demonstrate appropriate skills. The ability to draw is essential.

About the Course
In Fine Art you will be introduced to a wide range of drawing and painting techniques and will develop your personal creative skills, building your own portfolio for assessment and progression. You will also learn about major artists and movements in order to help you produce exciting, modern works of art.

Art (Graphic Design)

Additional Entry Qualifications
C or above in GCSE Art or Graphic Design. The ability to draw is expected.

About the Course
This subject specialises in the use of graphic design and illustration to develop your communication skills. You will use a range of media – such as photography, typography and computer aided design. You’ll also learn about major artists and movements in the history of Art & Design. This will enable you to build a portfolio of good graphics and to analyse and respond to other artists’ work.

Art (Ceramic Design)

About the Course
In this subject you will develop specialist skills in ceramic design, to enable you to produce a range of experimental work and final pieces in clay and also experiment with a range of decorative techniques. It is aimed at students who are interested in sculptural and/or functional ceramics. A range of work by artists, designers and craftspeople is investigated to help students to develop work in highly individual ways.

Most other subjects, especially other Art AS/A Levels. Cannot be combined with Art (3D Creative Design).

Possible Progression
Careers and further study in Ceramics, 3D, Product Design, Industrial Design, Crafts, Sculpture along with a broad range of other Art & Design courses.

Art (3D Creative Design)

Additional Entry Qualifications
C or above in GCSE Art. The ability to draw is expected.

About the Course
This course allows you to develop a broad range of 3D Design and making skills. It is aimed at students interested in creating functional 3D design and/or sculpture. A range of design, craft and fine art work is explored allowing students to develop ideas in highly individual ways.

Most other subjects, especially other Art AS/A Levels. Cannot be combined with Art (Ceramic Design).

Art (Textile Design)

Additional Entry Qualifications
C or above in GCSE Art & Design or GCSE Textiles.

About the Course
On this course the emphasis is on the development of design and craft skills working in a range of materials. There will be an opportunity to explore decorative and wearable design. You will be expected to become acquainted with major designers, craftspeople and movements in Art & Design, to build up a range of good examples to analyse and respond to. It is expected that this will then feed into your own coursework. Using these methods you will build up a portfolio of exciting, inventive and individual work for assessment and progression.

Photography

Additional Entry Qualifications
This course is unique in our department as it is the only one where students wishing to take it do not need any prior art and design training.

About the Course
You will be introduced to and taught a range of photographic techniques such as manual focus, depth of field, white balance adjustment, picture composition and zoom using a variety of methods and media. This is done primarily through digital photography and photo-editing using Adobe Photoshop. You will be carefully guided and supported through a range of structured teaching experiences using themes like People, Places, Abstraction and Architecture. You will explore relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to photography and a wider range of art and design. You will also be encouraged to keep sketchbooks to document the development of your work.

Art & Design (Double Applied AS/A2)

Additional Entry Qualifications
C or above in GCSE Art, and a portfolio of work with evidence of observational drawing and design skills.

About the Course
You will study a wide range of Art & Design specialisms such as Fine Art, Graphics, Sculpture, Ceramics, Product Design, Surface Pattern, 2D Crafts and 3D Crafts whilst developing a vocational understanding of Art and Design. You will then have the opportunity to specialise in specific areas as the course progresses. There are organised visits to art galleries, museums etc and all students go on work experience as part of the course. There is a written aspect to this qualification.
