How can Ex-Students request a reference from Oldham Sixth Form College?

If you have left college within the last 3 academic years, you will be able to request a reference from college.  However, if you have been studying or working elsewhere during that time, a reference from that establishment or employer may be more appropriate.

To request a reference

Write an e-mail to Joanne Boyes, jbs@osfc.ac.uk with as much information as possible, including

  • Full name, Date of Birth, S number, daytime telephone number(s) and year you left college

  • Details of what you are applying for

  • Details of any voluntary work, paid work, travel or anything else that has been occupying your time since leaving college

  • Details of any voluntary work, paid work, travel or anything else that you plan to do in the near future

  • Anything else you think we should be aware of whilst writing your reference that may support your application

  • If it is a reference to be sent directly to an employer or college, details of who it is to be sent to and where (by e-mail or post) and a deadline if applicable.  Please note, references may take up to 4 working weeks to be available from date of request at peak application times.

For UCAS applications

Follow the instructions above and in addition:

  • If you haven’t started your application form yet – Register online through apply online and say that you are applying as an individual. Select the option ‘ask a school or college for a reference only’ and then use the buzzword.

  • If you have already started your application form – Log into apply and click on ‘Options’. Select the option ‘ask a school or college for a reference only’. Then use the buzzword.

        • Buzzword for 2013 entry is osfc2013

College can add your reference online through the UCAS website.

PLEASE NOTE: The process on UCAS Apply is slightly different for ex-students and current students. Please take care to select the correct options or your reference will be delayed. Also, to give equal priority to both current and ex-students, all applicants must have fully completed their application forms before we will provide a reference.  It can take 4 working weeks from completing to providing a reference at peak application times.
