Bonjour and Hola!
Almost 90 Year 4 and 5 pupils from three different primary schools across Oldham attended a LIFT (Languages: Inspiring Futures Together) Primary Languages Day at OSFC on Wednesday 18 June. The day aimed to immerse pupils in French or Spanish through a carousel of language focused activities – including interactive lessons delivered by A Level language students, a listening session in the Language Laboratory and a tour of the College with a language twist. The visitors threw themselves wholeheartedly into all the activities and there was a real ‘buzz’ around College as they asked their hosts lots of questions about language learning and College life in general.
Sarah Shaw, LIFT Project Manager and OSFC French tutor said, “It was wonderful to see how engaged the pupils were and a real highlight for me was when every pupil thanked me personally in French at the end of the day! Our own students were fantastic too. They worked so hard to deliver engaging and upbeat lessons”. The three schools involved were Hey with Zion in Lees, Saints Aidan and Oswald in Royton and Higher Failsworth Primary.

“It was a fantastic day. The pupils loved the opportunity to learn a new language and to use the college language facilities. The students were a true inspiration and on a wider level the whole day really helped to raise the pupils’ aspirations.” Samantha Forster, Deputy Head at Higher Failsworth
