1. Extension Activities
Oldham Sixth Form College offers extra academic support to all students. Extension activities challenge the most able in lessons. In addition, students applying for the most competitive degree courses at prestigious universities can access further help with their university applications and preparations for higher level study. This support will involve stretching students beyond the A Level specifications of their subjects, offering learning opportunities outside of the classroom, such as visits to exhibitions and events, and providing mock interviews.
2. Oxbridge Group
To encourage students to consider Oxford and Cambridge universities by inviting speakers from each university, and ex-students who attend Oxbridge, to talk to the group in College. Visits to Oxbridge Open Days are also arranged and comprehensive support is provided for students who decide to apply.
3. Enrichment Qualifications
In Years 12 and 13 students can choose additional Enrichment qualifications to complement their A level programme. For example, Critical Thinking AS/A Level is popular.
4. Extended Project Qualification
In 2009, the College introduced this new qualification, aimed at students who wish to undertake an individual research project on a topic of their choice. The most recent group of students have once again achieved excellent results in this qualification -with a 100% pass rate and over 50% of students achieving an A* or A grade
5. Enrichment Courses
We also offer an impressive range of Enrichment courses in areas such as Sport, Drama and Modern Languages that students may take alongside their main study programme. These courses impress employers and university admissions tutors be cause they demonstrate that a student is well motivated and enthusiastic.
6. Work Shadowing
Available for all students but of particular advantage to those who wish to pursue a career in competitive areas such as Law or Medicine.
